The Smart Patch includes all of the functions of the EconoPatch with the addition of console management and individual circuit LED signal status indicators. Like the EconoPatch, it's built with gold-plated, self-wiping contacts. Female user connectors are standard (male DCE can be specified). The industry-standard patch cords route 24 wires (safety ground is never broken).

The Smart Patch console can be any customer-supplied ASCII terminal or a PC with VIR's Windows based software. The console is used to view physical layer signal status for all supported circuits (up to 6400 in twenty different locations). Alarms can be individually configured for each circuit and the operator is alerted whenever any alarm condition occurs. The console can also command a bridged connection to an external customer-supplied monitoring device. Depending on the installed Control Module, the monitor outputs are converted to either RS-232, V.35 or RS-530 signaling, thus allowing a single monitoring device for multiple circuit types.

For those users that require EconoPatch functionality with individual circuit LED indicators, the Smart Patch can be ordered with a Service Unit installed in place of the Control Module.
